Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced Thursday that the team has added another offensive target to its lineup, as wide receiver Tristan Purifoy has been assigned to the Jacksonville roster.
The 23-year-old Purifoy (6'0", 200) participated in Jacksonville's training camp before being placed on Injured Reserve on March 8. Purifoy spent the first three weeks of the season on Injured Reserve before being placed on reassignment this past Tuesday, making him now eligible to rejoin the Sharks' active roster.
Before joining the Sharks, Purifoy played at the University of North Alabama, where he emerged as one of the Lions' top downfield targets as a senior in 2011. That year, Purifoy caught 58 passes for 867 yards and a team-high eight receiving touchdowns, leading his team with an average of 14.9 yards per reception. He also returned 12 kickoffs for 296 yards that season.
Purifoy totaled 15 receptions for 174 yards and a touchdown in 2010, his first season at North Alabama. He began his collegiate career at Jones County Junior College, where he totaled 31 receptions for 279 yards and three touchdowns during his two seasons at the school.
The Sharks head west this weekend to meet the Arizona Rattlers on Saturday night. Kickoff from US Airways Center in Phoenix is set for 9:00, and the game will air live on AM 600 WBOB, as well as online via ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
