Maine Celtics News Release

PORTLAND, Maine - October 13, 2016 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, announced today that Scott Morrison will return for a third season as head coach of the team. Morrison, already the winningest coach in Red Claws history, will add to his record in 2016-17, becoming the first Red Claws head coach to coach three seasons in Maine.

Morrison led Maine to a 31-19 record last season. In two seasons, Morrison's record is 66-34 (.660), and he has led the Claws to back-to-back Atlantic Division titles, the only two in team history.

A native of Prince Edward Island, Morrison spent the offseason as an assistant coach for the Canadian Men's National Team, as they tried to qualify for the Rio Olympics. Morrison then returned to Boston to help the Boston Celtics coaching staff with offseason training, assisting in Celtics training camp as well.

Morrison was named head coach of the Red Claws for the 2014-15 season, after serving as an assistant the year before. Prior to joining the Red Claws, Morrison was the head coach at Lakehead University (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada) for 11 years. While at the helm at Lakehead, Morrison turned the men's basketball program into one of the most prominent in all of Canada, leading the Thunderwolves to the school's first ever Ontario University Athletics Conference championship during the 2010-11 season, and a silver medal in the 2013 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Championships.

The Red Claws tip off their 8th season on Nov. 11 at Oklahoma City. Maine's home opener is scheduled for Nov. 18 against Long Island.
