
River Sharks Hire Defensive Line Coach

The Tennessee River Sharks are proud to add to their Coaching staff Coach Phillips played this past season with the former NIFL Rome Renegades where he help led the renegades to indoor bowl V. Coach Phillips stared playing professionally in 2001, with the Tennessee Valley Vipers of Arena 2, there he played three seasons and in his second season he became the Vipers all-time career leader in sacks and tackles for loss. Then in 2004 moving on to the Birmingham Steeldogs where he started at FB/LB, there he helped the Steeeldogs to a 10-6 record and a trip to the 2004 arena cup playoffs. Coach Phillips played college ball at Georgia Southern University helping the Eagles advance to four playoffs appearances and two National Championships in hattanooga and eventually winning one his senior year in 1999. He also was named to the Div 1-aa All-American team and first team All-Conference for his efforts his senior year.
Coach Carter said, "I really like the conservation we had over the phone and I ask him to come down for an interview. We need people like Coach Phillips to help make this a strong organization. Coach Carter also added that he plans to bring the best guys possible to make sure we win and you can only do that by surrounding yourself with good people."
