
Red Claws Take Down Bulls

Portland, ME -The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, rang in the New Year with an emphatic 117-106 win Saturday afternoon at the Portland Expo.
Demetrius Jackson, on assignment from the Boston Celtics, led all scorers with 30 points on 12-16 shooting, including 4-5 from downtown. Jordan Mickey, also on assignment from the Celtics, added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the win, while Abdel Nader scored 19 points, while Jalen Jones added 18 points and 13 rebounds in his 8th double-double of the season. Marcus Georges-Hunt added 14 points, while Arthur Edwards scored 10 points off the bench.
The Red Claws (12-7) surged out to a fast start, with Jones driving and scoring to give Maine a 13-10 lead. Windy City (6-10) then went on an 8-0 run, eading into the first timeout with a five point advantage after Alfonzo McKinnie slamming home the ball as an exclamation point. The Bulls continued the run to 18-2, with Aaron Thomas scoring 11 quick points for Windy City. When the dust settled, Maine trailed Windy City 27-24 after one quarter.
In the 2nd, the Red Claws' offense heated up. Arthur Edwards' back-to-back three pointers led a 10-0 run, as Maine took a 36-29 lead. Jackson made 5 of his first 7 shots, driving to the basket and scoring with ease. Windy City finished the half with two quick buckets, making it a 55-50 lead for Maine at the break. The Red Claws shot 52.8% from the field (19-36) in the first half, including 8-16 from downtown.
The Red Claws opened the 3rd quarter on a 12-0 run, with Nader leading the charge. Nader got back to back three-point plays to extend the lead to 67-50. Jackson continued his hot shooting in the second half, finishing the quarter with his fourth three-pointer. The Red Claws ended the frame with a 90-77 lead.
In the 4th, former Red Claw Andre Dawkins tried to get Windy City back into the game, cutting the lead to nine. Georges-Hunt, playing with five fouls, put an end to the run with a lay-up. Georges-Hunt then drove and scored for three points the hard way, giving Maine a 103-87 lead. The Red Claws cruised from there, shooting an impressive 48.7% from the field (38-78) and 50% (17-34) from downtown. Maine was 24-27 from the free throw line. Windy City shot 41.1% (39-95) from the floor, 42.9% (9-21) from three-point range, and 19-25 from the charity stripe.
