Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

PEORIA, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers had plenty of chances at Dozer Park on Thursday night, but it was the Peoria Chiefs who would make the most of their opportunities to record a 3-0 win over Wisconsin. Chiefs starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara pitched around four hits and five walks with eight strikeouts as the Rattlers stranded thirteen base runners in the game.

Peoria (7-7) grabbed the lead in the first inning on four straight singles and a pair of Wisconsin errors. Edmundo Sosa and Magneuris Sierra started the rally with one-out singles to put runners at the corners. Orlando Olivera followed with a single to center to score Sosa. An error on the play allowed Sierra to score. RJ Dennard was next and he blooped a single into left field. An error on that play let Olivera to score from second and the Chiefs were up 3-0.

Wisconsin (5-10) had plenty of chances against Alcantara in the first four innings. But, the Rattlers left the bases loaded in the first, third, and fourth innings. They also stranded two runners in the second for a total of eleven runners left on base in the first four innings. Alcantara would retire the final seven batters he faced before leaving the game with eight strikeouts after six scoreless innings. He pitched around five walks, four hits, and a Peoria error.

Wisconsin's pitchers deserved a better fate. Miguel Diaz allowed three runs - two earned - over five innings, but was tagged with the loss. Drake Owenby allowed one hit and struck out five over three scoreless innings.

Max McDowell and Mitch Ghelfi each had two hits for the Rattlers. David Denson reached base three times with a hit and two walks. Isan Diaz doubled in the first inning for Wisconsin's lone extra-base hit.

Game two of the series is set for Friday night at Dozer Park. Jake Drossner (0-3, 7.45) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Ryan Helsley (0-1, 3.18) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 6:30pm. The radio broadcast is on AM1280, WNAM starting with the pregame show at 6:10pm. The game is also available on the internet through IHeartRadio and TuneIn.
