ST. CHARLES, MISSOURI: The RiverCity Rage Professional Indoor Football Team is coming off their much needed bye week and are preparing for the Omaha Beef. The two former UIF rivals will meet on Saturday, May 30th at 7:30 p.m. The Rage is 7-2 on the year and a perfect 5-0 on the season at the Family Arena in St. Charles. Omaha comes into the game with a 6-2 record and are riding a five-game winning streak.
The two teams lead the United Conference of the IFL and are meeting for the first time this season. The two teams split last season, each winning on their home turf. In 2008, the Rage beat the Beef 36-18 at home during week three before losing 41-15 on the road in week four. This season the two teams are both currently in first place in their respective divisions, with the Rage leading the Atlantic Division and the Beef leading the Central Division.
RiverCity suffered just their second loss of the season in their last contest before the bye week, falling 34-19 on the road against Rochester. The Rage still rank among the league leaders in the IFL in a number of offensive and defensive categories. The team is ranked fifth in the league in scoring (47.3 points per game), fourth in passing offense (192.3 yards per game), first in kickoff returns (20.2 yards per return), third in total defense (173 yards per game allowed), and fourth in fewest points allowed per game (33 points).
Individually, the Rage has numerous players who rank among the league leaders in the IFL. Quarterback Dixie Wooten is third in the IFL in touchdown passes (37), yards passing (1,626) and is fifth in the league in passing efficiency. The wide receiver tandem of Maurice Avery and Hurtis Chinn have combined for 20 touchdown receptions and are both ranked among the top-20 in receptions and receptions per game average. Running back Randy Bell has provided the team with a huge lift and has recorded the ninth highest touchdown total in the league with 13.
On defense, linebacker Joe Bevis has again been the engine that makes the Rage machine move. The returning defensive player of the league leads the team with 59 tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss. He has added two sacks, four pass breakups, eight quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and an interception. Defensive end Xzavie Jackson has been a true force for the Rage defensive front; he ranks first in the team with five sacks and second on the squad with eight tackles for loss.
The Omaha Beef are also among the league leaders in a number of key categories. The Beef are third in the IFL in scoring (53.1 points per game), passing offense (194.1 yards per game), and fourth in total offense (257.9 yards per game). Defensively the Beef have struggled, ranking 14th in the IFL in points allowed (50.2 points per game), and last in the league in pass defense (191.1 yards allowed) and total defense (263.8 yards per game).
The Beef are led by quarterback James McNear with 1,349 yards passing, 24 touchdowns, and just two interceptions. McNear has also rushed for 208 yards and nine touchdowns. Wide receiver Allen Burrell has been McNears top target, catching 40 passes for 416 yards and nine scores. Running back R.J. Rollins has been a duel threat as well, rushing for 260 yards and ten touchdowns while catching 28 balls for 291 yards and two TDs.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Darnell Terrell, Defensive Back: Terrell was an All-Big 12 selection at cornerback for the Missouri Tigers, playing in 49 games during his college career, starting 34 of the contests. He was named Mizzou cornerback of the year in 2006 and also the teams most improved defensive back. Terrell recorded 23 pass breakups, 123 tackles, and three INT in career for the Tigers.
Terrell is currently second on the team with 30 tackles and is third on the Rage with three interceptions. Terrell has three pass breakups and has been very solid in both pass coverage and run support. He has made an outstanding addition to the Rage secondary for the 2009 season. 2009.
QUICK HITS
During the game against the Beef, the Rage will be honoring our area troops, fire fighters, police officers, and other emergency personnel during Fallen Heroes Night. There will be a special presentation during the pregame and halftime ceremony honoring all of the men and women who risk or give their lives for the safety and protection of all of us on a daily basis.
Following the game with the Beef, the Rage will spend three of their next four games on the road. The Rage will have two back-to-back road contests, first against Muskegon on June 6th and then they travel to regional rival Bloomington on June 13th. The final regular season home game for the Rage will be against El Paso on Saturday, June 20th at 7:30 p.m.
