Iowa Cubs News Release

NASHVILLE, TN - The Nashville Sounds (82-56) put up five runs in the second inning as they rolled past the Iowa Cubs (62-75) 8-2, Tuesday at First Tennessee Park. Home runs from Matt Chapman, Matt Olson and Bryan Anderson helped the damage against the I-Cubs.

Iowa was the first to score tonight, getting a run in the second after Tim Federowicz doubled, moved to third on a groundout and came home on a single from Juan Perez.

Nashville got hot in the second, knocking Iowa starter Drew Rucinski for five earned runs. The righty quickly loaded the bases with nobody out as he walked two and hit a batter. A two-RBI single by Josh Rodriguez put the Sounds ahead 2-1. Another run scored on a wild pitch and Chapman capped the effort with a two-run long ball.

Jeimer Candelario drew a leadoff walk in the fourth and the I-Cubs inched closer as he later scored on a double from Logan Watkins.

The Sounds took the run back in the bottom of the fifth as Olson skied the home team's second homer of the game to right off Armando Rivero. The righty settled in from there and sat five batters down on strikes in two innings of work.

Nashville continued its home run derby as Anderson belted a two-run shot to straight-away center to extend the Sounds' lead to 8-2, securing the final score.

Rucinski fell to 6-15 on the season with the loss, while Daniel Gossett took the win in his Triple-A debut.

Iowa and Nashville play game three of the set at 12:05 p.m., Wednesday at First Tennessee Park. Listen live on AM 940 or at www.iowacubs.com.
