
Marlette, Santiago Earn Weekly Honors

PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, May 27. Mississippi Braves first baseman, Tyler Marlette and right-handed pitcher, Andres Santiago have been selected for the weekly awards.
Marlette, the 25-year old first baseman, is currently hitting .274 (37-for-135) on the season. Marlette ended the week with a .435 AVG (10-for-23), 4 runs scored, two home runs, six runs batted in, and three walks. In 42 games played with the Mississippi Braves thus far in 2018, Marlette has recorded 20 runs scored, nine doubles, five home runs, 16 runs batted in, 61 total bases, 11 walks and one stolen base.
On the season, Marlette is sporting a .333 on-base percentage accompanied by a .452 slugging percentage and a .785 on-base slugging percentage. A native of Oviedo, Florida, Marlette was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the fifth round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Paul J. Hagerty High School (Oviedo, Florida). Marlette signed a minor league contract with the Atlanta Braves on December 1, 2017.
Santiago, the 28-year old right-handed pitcher has been awarded MS Farm Bureau Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, becoming the only M-Braves pitcher to do so in 2018. Santiago improved to 3-0 on the year and lowered his ERA to 3.38 from 4.12 over the course of the week. For the week ending Sunday, May 27, Santiago earned a win in his lone appearance on the mound. In his outing against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Saturday, May 26, Santiago tossed a season high, 7.0 innings while collecting a season high, eight strikeouts while allowing only five hits, one run, which was earned, and one home run without issuing any walks.
In five games played with the Mississippi Braves in 2018, the right-hander has started four games, allowed 28 hits, 10 runs, 10 earned runs, four home runs, issued three walks, and struck out 21 in 26.2 innings pitched. A native of Toa Baja, Puerto Rico, Santiago was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 16th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft. Santiago was acquired by the Atlanta Braves as a minor-league free agent on March 14, 2017.
The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, over 125 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball.
