MacDougall Haunts Old Team as Eagles Continue Winning Ways on The

QUÉBEC CITY- Ross MacDougall returned to the lineup, and returned to Québec City in a big way as his two goals paced the Screaming Eagles to a 5-2 victory over the Remparts. Another former Eagle making his first visit back, Massimo Carozza, added two assists. The Eagles are now 3-0 on their current road trip.
There was a very tentative start to the game, as it took 4:40 for the game to find its first shot on goal. But it would result in a goal off the stick off of Philipp Kurashev. Kurashev cut into the zone, moved the puck to Mathieu Ayotte at the top of the leftt faceoff circle, who flipped it back to Kurashev at the front of the net. Kurashev was falling to the ice but managed to score on a delayed penalty and the home team was up 1-0.
Cape Breton would control the play from that point forward though, outshooting Québec 11-2 for the rest of the period and finding the tying goal courtesy of Adam McCormick. McCormick jumped into the play and converted a diagonal feed from Massimo Carozza at the side of the net to put the puck past Evgeny Kiselev. It was tied at 1 after twenty minutes. The opening period also featured a tussle as Eagles blueliner Sacha Roy dropped the gloves with Remparts defenseman Raphaël Maheux.
Period two would follow a similar pattern to the first- the Eagles would heavily outshoot the Remparts, but would need to come up with a goal to leave the period tied. Olivier Garneau put the home side ahead before the five minute mark with a power play goal. The Remparts captain fired it on net and Kevin Mandolese made the initial stop before the puck would drop below him and then through his legs.
MacDougall would step up to tie the game, on a goal that saw the Eagles defense heavily involved in the scoring. Marcus Tesink, returning to action after a four game absence, flung the puck across the ice to find MacDougall who wired it on a sharp angle past Kiselev to knot the score. Cape Breton outshot Québec 21-9 in the middle stanza.
It would be the former Rempart who would find the back of the net at the 6:43 mark of the third period, giving the Eagles their first power play goal and first lead of the night. As the Remparts tried to milk the clock down on the penalty kill, MacDougall set up at the top of the left circle. The puck was thrown back to him and he had a clear lane to evaluate his shot, and although Québec players would collapse in front of their goaltender, MacDougall's shot found its way by Kiselev to give Cape Breton a 3-2 edge.
Québec would outshoot Cape Breton 12-10 in the final frame, but couldn't find a way past Mandolese. In the dying minutes Philippe Boucher would try to find the tying goal by lifting Kiselev on two separate occasions, but it only lead to the Screaming Eagles hitting the open cage twice- first Giovanni Fiore, and then Peyton Hoyt. Fiore's goal was his league leading 42nd of the season, while Hoyt's came in his return to the lineup after missing the prior four games.
Mandolese picked up the win, stopping 22 of 24 shots. Kiselev took the loss despite stopping 37 of 40 shots in addition to the two empty net goals. Tuesday's victory marks the first time the Screaming Eagles have won at Québec's Videotron Centre, having lost in their only other visit, during the fall of 2015.
It's the first time on this road trip the Screaming Eagles will play back to back games, as the Eagles visit Shawinigan on Wednesday night to play the Cataractes. Puck drop is 8 PM Atlantic time. You can hear all the action on 1270 AM CJCB or online at http://www.cjcbradio.com.
