December 15, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX- The Texas Legends have announced a special partnership with Texas811 that will honor local law enforcement and their sacrifice and dedication to bettering our community. On Friday, December 16th, the Legends will wear custom jerseys honoring the Assist the Officer Foundation and Texas811's commitment to supporting them.
On July 7, long-time Legends season ticket holder and six-year DART Police Officer Misty McBride was among the 11 officers targeted in Dallas. McBride was shot twice while aiding civilians. She survived and has undergone multiple surgeries but is recovering well and looks to continue her service in 2017.
"This is truly an honor for us to be able to recognize Misty and all of the true Legends out there putting their lives on the line to protect us every day," commented Mavericks President/General Manager and Legends Owner Donnie Nelson. "Misty is part of our family so it's a special opportunity for us to get to celebrate her heroism. We are truly proud of her and want to let her and all of the officers know how much they mean to us."
The evening will also be a personal celebration for Texas811 President/CEO Mike Losawyer whose son is currently serving on a local police force.
"I couldn't be more proud of his sacrifices," Losawyer said. "So when we were given the opportunity to recognize an organization that looks after him and his brothers and sisters in blue we jumped at it. Our team at Texas811 looks forward to enjoying a night at the game together and celebrating our first responders."
Texas811 is the non-profit one-call contact center who is integral to keeping people safe when digging near underground utility lines and protecting your utility service from accidental damage and outage. Whether you are a homeowner or a construction worker, a quick call to 811 will alert utility companies of your plans. They will send personnel to the property to mark the location of the underground lines. After the area is marked you can safely begin your work avoiding any underground utilities. Enhancing safety and preventing damage is Texas811's main mission. Texas811 is proud to support our first responders; both work to promote public safety.
Texas811 and the Legends have provided complimentary tickets to local law enforcement officers and their families and will honor local leaders, such as McBride, as "Legends of the Night" on Friday.
The Assist the Officer Foundation is also currently working on a campaign for injured DART Police Motorcycle Officer Justin Ellis, and will be using this opportunity to raise money for Ellis and his family. Ellis was severely injured in October after a vehicle ran a red light. After nearly three months in the hospital, Ellis will be released later this month confined to a wheelchair for at least six months. ATO has taken on the task of updating Ellis' home to be wheelchair accessible and is looking to raise the funds necessary to complete the task.
"Assist the Officer exists to help our brothers and sisters in arms," stated ATO Representative Detective Joe Stinson. "It's obviously a dangerous calling and it's important for us to stand by each other through any and all circumstances."
The Legends will host the Westchester Knicks on Friday, tipping off at 7:30 pm CT at Dr Pepper Arena. For tickets or information visit www.TexLegends.com or call 214-469-0822.
