John Jenkins Ties Westchester Knicks' All-Time Points Record in Loss to Long Island Nets
March 15, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
BROOKLYN, NY- The Westchester Knicks (16-26), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, fell 123-99 to the Long Island Nets (15-28), the Brooklyn Nets' affiliate, despite a 40-point performance from guard John Jenkins. The feat ties Westchester's all-time points record originally set by Doron Lamb on March 12, 2015 in the team's inaugural season.
John Jenkins' 40 points was a game-high; he also had four rebounds and two assists. Forward Keith Wright finished with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds for his fifth consecutive game in double-digits, also adding two blocks.
Damien Inglis was the only other Knick in double-digits, finishing with 13 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
Cliff Alexander paced the Nets from the bench with 27 points, nabbing a double-double with 13 rebounds. Guard RJ Hunter contributed 23 points with four rebounds and two blocked shots, while forward JJ Moore chipped in 20 points with five rebounds. Boris Dallo supplied 17 points, six rebounds and five assists.
It was all Nets basketball in the first half as the home team outscored the Knicks 70-48 after the first two quarters. John Jenkins carried his team with 21 first-half points while Long Island's multiple hot hands shot 60 percent, with 40 of its points coming in the paint. Westchester hurt its own cause with 10 turnovers amounting to 18 points on top of faulty shooting of just under 40 percent.
Westchester took advantage of a slow third quarter from Long Island, trimming a 23-point deficit down to 14. But a Nets three-pointer to both end the third and begin the fourth brought the Knicks back down by 20. Not giving up completely, Westchester went on a 9-0 run but it was too little too late as Long Island continued to dominate, handing the Knicks its fifth consecutive loss with a final score of 123-99.
The Westchester Knicks and Long Island Nets will face off again on Thursday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. at the historic Westchester County Center in White Plains. The game will be broadcast on MSG Networks and streamed live on Facebook Live.
