February 2, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
GRAND RAPIDS, MI- The Westchester Knicks (13-15), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, fell in Grand Rapids tonight, as the Drive, the Detroit Pistons' affiliate, bested the Knicks' sparse roster 132-117.
With just nine players on its active list, Westchester's starters all recorded thirty-plus minute games. From the bench, Von Wafer led the Knicks with 26 points, a new season-high for the guard. Kevin Capers also notched a new season-high, finishing with 21 points and adding three assists and two rebounds. Doron Lamb supplied 20 points with four rebounds while Damien Inglis chipped in 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Keith Wright recorded his fourth double-double of the season, providing 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Grand Rapids received added help, as the home team had three players on assignment from the Pistons. Assignee Darrun Hilliard paced the Drive with 29 points and four rebounds, while Henry Ellison pitched in everywhere with 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. Coming off the pine, guard Jordan Crawford provided 25 points while his bench mate Kevin Murphy supplied 17. Center Nikola Jovanovic finished his night with a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Darrun Hilliard scorched through the first quarter, hitting six shots from downtown in a row to give the Drive an early 18-8 lead. In the first quarter alone, Hilliard and Jordan Crawford made up 30 of Grand Rapids' 36 points. Not to be outdone, Westchester's Kevin Capers and Von Wafer came in hot in the second, adding 13 and 11 points respectively while holding Hilliard to just five points and Crawford to zero. At the half, the Knicks had put themselves on top, 65-63.
Taking as much as a 12-point lead in the third, things were looking good for Westchester. That is, until Grand Rapids finished out the quarter by going on a 29-9 run, flipping the table and heading into the fourth up by six. The Drive would never trail again, running away with the game by outscoring the Knicks 34-25 in the final quarter while outrebounding them 18-7 en route to a 132-117 victory.
