Goats Withstand Ponies' Ninth Inning Stampede

Binghamton, NY- Jack Wynkoop turned in a second straight solid start by a Hartford pitcher and for the second straight game the Yard Goats withstood a ninth rally to beat the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, 6-5 Monday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium. Hartford earned a split of the four-game series, in which every game was decided by one run. The Yard Goats split all eight games on their longest road trip of the season.

Hartford banged out 12 hits, led by Jan Vazquez, who went 4-for-4. Ashley Graeter had two hits, including a home run and two RBI. Correlle Prime collected two hits, including a home run, while Luis Jean added two hits, including a two-run single to give the Yard Goats a 4-1 lead. Max White also had two hits.

LJ Mazzilli, who played college baseball at UConn and hails from Greenwich, homered and had three hits and three RBI for Binghamton.

Wynkoop pitched seven innings, scattering seven hits. He gave up two runs, walked one and struck out one to improve to 4-2. Reliever James Farris entered in the ninth inning with two runners on base. He allowed a pinch-hit RBI double to Cody Decker and a two-run single to Mazzilli sandwiched around two strike outs, before he got Kevin Taylor to bounce out to short to record his ninth save.

The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Donuts Park to start a six-game home stand Tuesday night against the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Game is 7:05. Righthander Konnor Wade will pitch for Hartford against righthander Cory Taylor of Richmond. The game can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and on iHeart Radio.
