Jackson Generals News Release

Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals ended the 2015 season on a high note, winning 6-4 over Chattanooga in their final game at AT&T Field on Labor Day. The Generals earned a second-straight series win for the second time this season, finishing the campaign with an overall record of 53-84.

Jackson (24-45, 53-84) won behind the strength of a four-run third inning. Chattanooga (33-36, 76-61) took an early 1-0 lead in the second on Adam Brett Walker's Southern League-leading 31st home run of the year, but the Generals took the lead for good in the next frame. After a walk and a single, Ian Miller doubled to left-center to knot the game up at one. Miller had two hits in the contest, ending the season on a six-game hit streak.

Two batters later, Leon Landry singled and two runs scored thanks in part to a Lookouts error as Jackson went up 3-1. Jordy Lara followed with a sacrifice fly to increase the Jackson lead to three. Lara finished the year with an RBI in six straight games and a team-high 56 in that department.

Edwin Diaz got the start, tossing three innings for Jackson. Walker's home run was the only hit the right-hander allowed in his final start. Between Jackson and Bakersfield, he threw a career-high 141.1 innings in 2015.

Jake Zokan (3-4, 4.27) earned the victory in his second relief appearance of the season. The lefty gave up an unearned run in two innings of work, with Chattanooga getting within two on a Luis Caballero error in the fourth inning.

Guillermo Pimentel gave Jackson some breathing room in the fifth, taking Aaron Slegers (1-4, 4.91) deep to right field with a solo shot. His third home run of the year made it 5-2. Jackson added a run against Nick Burdi in the seventh as well. Zach Shank tripled with one out before coming home on an error to put the Generals up four.

The Lookouts managed to chip away with runs in the final two innings to make it a two-run game. D.J. Hicks drove in a run in the eighth on a single and Heiker Meneses added an RBI base hit in the ninth off of Tyler Knigge. Paul Fry (S, 7) earned his third save of the series by getting the final two outs. With two on and one out in the ninth, the lefty induced a season-ending double play from Niko Goodrum.

Jackson won rubber matches in each of its last two series, ending the year with six wins in nine games. The back-to-back series wins marked the first time the team had won consecutive five-game sets since the end of April and early May.

The Generals finished the campaign with an overall mark of 53-84, five games below the team's previous low water mark of 59-80 in 2001.

The Labor Day victory brought the 2015 campaign to an end for Jackson, though Southern League baseball continues with the postseason on Thursday. Chattanooga plays Montgomery in the North Division while Biloxi and Pensacola meet in the South Division to determine the Southern League Championship Series match-up.

The Jackson Generals would like to thank all of the team's fans in West Tennessee and throughout the country for their support throughout the season. The team outdrew last season's attendance on average (2,173) and in total (136, 918) despite four more rainouts in 2015.
