PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ, December 10, 2017 - The Westchester Knicks (11-5), the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, are now 6-1 on the road after tipping off its four-game road trip with a 123-103 win over the Northern Arizona Suns (5-9), the Phoenix Suns' affiliate.
Knicks affiliate and second-leading scorer in the league Trey Burke scored a game-high 30 points, adding seven rebounds and six assists. Two-Way player Isaiah Hicks recorded another double-double on the season with 23 points and 10 rebounds while setting a new team season high in blocks with six. Knicks affiliate Xavier Rathan-Mayes finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, his affiliate teammate Nigel Hayes contributing 16 points with nine rebounds. Guard Billy Garrett had his best performance of the season off the bench with 16 points.
Suns Two-Way player Mike Young and guard Xavier Silas led Northern Arizona with 20 points each, Young recording a double-double with 12 rebounds. Two-Way player Alec Peters finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, guard Askia Booker the only other Sun to finish in double-digits with 13 points, eight assists, and three steals.
An evenly matched game for the first half of the first quarter, Westchester got its first jump of the game in the last three minutes, going up by as many as eight before ending the first 12 minutes with a six-point lead. The Suns answered back with a 10-0 run early in the second quarter to change the lead back over to Northern Arizona, extending the run to 16-0 before Westchester's Trey Burke was able to get the Knicks back in the game with a two-point jumper. It was a total run of 20-2 from the Suns before Westchester woke back up, Nigel Hayes hitting back-to-back threes to put the Knicks back in the game. Northern Arizona led by one at the half.
The Knicks took over the lead on the first possession of the third quarter as Isaiah Hicks floated one in. Taking a page from the Suns' second quarter performance, Westchester went on an 11-0 run of its own with Trey Burke scoring 12 points in the first four minutes. But after trailing by 16 points, Northern Arizona came charging back to take the lead again with under a minute to go in the third. Heading into the final quarter, Westchester held the one-point lead. The Knicks used a 7-0 run to pull ahead by eight in the fourth, followed by another 12-0 run to stretch its lead to 18. Outscored 36-17 in the final 12 minutes, the Suns were unable to catch back up and Westchester emerged the victors with a final score of 123-103, a score no one saw coming before the fourth quarter.
