Chicago Dogs News Release

Lincoln, Neb. - A Randolph Oduber walk-off single handed the Dogs their fourth straight loss as they suffered a sweep at the hands of the Lincoln Saltdogs, losing 5-4 in 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Haymarket Park.

The Saltdogs used their patented long-ball attack to comeback two separate times against the Dogs Sunday and ultimately walked off Chicago for the second time in three games.

Chicago led 3-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to one run in the top of the first and two more in the top of the fifth. A Treysen Vavra RBI single plated Jonathan Moroney in the first, and RBI knocks from Mike Falsetti and Moroney extended the Dogs lead in the fifth. Chicago had runners on first and second with one out in the fifth, but Vavra lined into a double-play to end the frame.

Vavra extended his RBI streak to three games with his run-producing knock in the first. Chicago hit into five double plays in the game, a single-game franchise record.

The Saltdogs answered for three runs of their own in the home half of the fifth inning. After an Oduber single led off the frame, a Brant Whiting single two batters later gave Lincoln men on first and second with one out. Christian Ibarra followed with his sixth home run of the year, a three-run, game-tying shot to left field.

Chicago pushed in front again on a second Falsetti RBI hit to score Matt Dean in the top of the seventh. Falsetti finished the game 2-3 after entering Sunday just 2-35 on the year.

Lincoln would once again answer a mere five minutes later however, as Dashenko Ricardo popped a solo home run to left field to lead off the bottom of the frame.

With the game tied at 4-4, both offenses would quiet down until the bottom of the eleventh. Consecutive singles from Curt Smith and Chase Simpson off Chicago reliever Kaohi Downing, followed by an intentional walk of Nathaniel Maggio loaded the bases with nobody out. With five men on the infield, Oduber single to deep left-center to end the game and hand the Dogs their fourth straight loss. Oduber went 3-5 on the day and 7-13 in the series with three runs driven in.

Downing took the loss, his second in three games, dropping him to 0-3 on the year. Chicago starter Kylin Turnbull pitched five innings in a no-decision, allowing three runs on seven hits.

Shairon Martis earned the win for Lincoln. The Saltdogs bullpen worked the final four and two-thirds innings scoreless to propel Lincoln to their third straight victory.

The loss drops the Dogs to 9-24 on the year, while Lincoln moves to 22-14 on the season with the sweep.

The Dogs will be back in action Monday as they host the Gary SouthShore RailCats for the first game of a four-game home-in-home series.
