Delaware Strikes Twice, Handing Westchester Its Second Loss of The Season

December 8, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release

WHITE PLAINS, NY - The Westchester Knicks (6-2), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, saw its winning streak end at six as the Delaware 87ers (3-4), the Philadelphia 76ers affiliate, handed the home team its second loss of the season on the league's first nationally broadcast game of the season, the final score 105-106.

Chasson Randle paced the Knicks with 18 points, going 10-for-13 from the line. Jaylen Bond picked up his third double- double of the season off the bench, finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Damien Inglis supplied 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the loss, while Kevin Capers had 14 points off the bench. Doron Lamb completed the double-digit scoring with 13 points, with an additional three rebounds and two steals.

Coming off the bench, Shawn Long led all scorers with 25 points, notching a double-double with 13 rebounds and swiping four steals. Cat Barber finished with 18 points, adding five each of rebounds and assists while Dionte Christmas had 13 points and two rebounds. James Webb III fell just short of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Riding high on a six-game winning streak, Westchester's one loss heading into the match came on both team's season opener in Delaware. With each team poised to spoil, the Knicks and 87ers traded 19 leads with 19 ties in a hotly contested game.

The first three quarters were a long build-up to what was quite likely the most exciting 41.8 seconds of the season thus far.

It began with Delaware's Cat Barber hitting a three, closing the gap to make it a one-point game - and doing it again two possessions later to take the lead. Knicks guard Kevin Capers drilled a mid-range jumper with 7.6 seconds left to put Westchester back up, but Barber fired back with a baseline jumper to put his team ahead one.

With 4.5 seconds left, the Knicks committed a five second violation, failing to inbound the ball. Forced to foul, Westchester found itself down by three with 4.0 seconds left. But the 87ers fouled Knicks guard Chasson Randle as he was attempting a three, and the team's leading free-throw shooter headed to line. Hitting the first two free throws, Randle missed the potential game-tying shot, the Knicks falling short of what would have been a record seventh win in a row.

The Westchester Knicks will begin a four-game road trip on Saturday, December 10 beginning with an 8:00 p.m. contest against the Oklahoma City Blue, the Oklahoma City Thunders' affiliate. The game will be broadcast live on MSG Network and Facebook Live.
