D-Fenders Defeat Spurs in Game One of the Western Conference Finals

EL SEGUNDO - The D-Fenders beat the Austin Spurs 102-97 tonight in El Segundo.

Vander Blue (33 points, 13 rebounds) led the D-Fenders (1-0). Ryan Gomes (18 points) and Justin Harper (17 points, 9 rebounds) each scored in double-figures, while Josh Magette scored seven points and dished out 13 assists.

Deshaun Thomas (18 points) and Brandon Fields (18 points) paced the Spurs (0-1). Youssou Ndoye (13 points), Keifer Sykes (11 points) and Demetri McCamey (11 points) all reached double-digits for Austin.

The D-Fenders got off to a hot start, outscoring the Spurs 31-18 in the first quarter behind 12 points from Blue and 10 from Gomes. Austin picked it up in the second quarter, outscoring Los Angeles 25-22, led by Fields with 10 points. At the half, the D-Fenders led 53-43.

Austin came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring Los Angeles 34-28 despite 10 points from Blue for the D-Fenders. After three, Los Angeles held an 81-77 advantage. The fourth quarter was back-and-fourth down the stretch, with the D-Fenders edging the Spurs 21-20 in the frame. A big off-hand finish from Blue and some clutch free throws from Harper gave the D-Fenders the victory.

The D-Fenders shot .452 from the field, compared to .444 for the Spurs. Los Angeles hit 11 three pointers, while Austin made just four.

Los Angeles heads to Austin to face the Spurs in Game 2 on Sunday at 5:30pm PT.
