CLIPPERS STOP RED CLAWS IN OT

Ontario, CA - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, had a chance to win it in regulation, but fell in overtime to the Agua Caliente Clippers Tuesday, 110-104.

The Red Claws (16-16) were led by Devin Williams with 26 points and 18 rebounds, his 12th double-double of the season. Trey Davis added 26 points and 7 assists. Daniel Dixon and Drew Barham each scored 10 points for Maine. L.J. Peak finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds, but missed two crucial free throws in the final second. Agua Caliente (16-17) was led by J.J. O'Brien with 30 points to lead all scorers.

Williams started the scoring in the 1st quarter, continuing his consistent play with an offensive board and putback. Peak buried a three-ball to put Maine up - with a 10-0 run, the Claws took a 17-9 lead. The Clippers were led early by J.J. O'Brien, scoring 9 points. Vitto Brown buried a three to make it 25-19. Williams finished with 9 points and 6 boards in the 1st quarter; the Red Claws took a 29-25 lead after 1.

The Red Claws started cold in the 2nd, and Henton's three-ball gave Agua Caliente a 36-35. Bennett, who missed the last 2 games with a foot injury, got inside for an easy bucket to regain the lead. The Claws maintained a slim lead in the first half of the period, but Agua Caliente scored 6 straight to go up 46-41. Williams' steal and slam followed by a Josh Adeyeye corner three tied the game at 51. The Clippers out-scored Maine 34-22 in the 2nd, taking a 59-51 halftime lead. Agua Caliente shot 59% (23-39) from the floor in the first half.

The Red Claws came out on fire in the 3rd, starting on a 9-2 run led by Williams on both ends of the floor. Peak's slam off of an offensive rebound gave Maine a 62-61 lead. Maine started on a 14-6 run, with Dixon dropping in a three to tie the game at 65. The Clippers went on a run from there, with James Michael McAdoo slamming home the alley-oop to give the Clippers a 75-67 lead. The Red Claws finished the quarter on a 10-2 run, with Peak tying the game at 77-77 after 3.

In the 4th, Brown gave Maine the lead with a straight on three. Williams and Davis scored 7 straight points, with Williams' corner three giving the Claws a 92-88 lead. O'Brien and Henton got the Clippers the lead back, putting Agua Caliente up 100-94. Davis answered with a three-point play to cut it to 3. Davis tied the game in the final seconds, forcing overtime.

In OT, McAdoo hit a long two, but Maine answered with a pair of Davis free throws. Denton and O'Brien hit back to back shots to put Agua Caliente up 5, and the Clippers put it away from there.

Maine shot 42% (36-85) from the floor, and 30% (12-40) from downtown, while going 20-24 from the free throws. Agua Caliente shot 48% (41-85) from the field, 25% (7-28) from three-point range, and 21-26 from the charity stripe.

The Red Claws next play at Santa Cruz tomorrow night, continuing their 4-game road trip. Maine returns home on Saturday, Feb. 10 against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
