OTTAWA - RHP Noah Gapp gave the Champions five solid innings, but the bullpen gave up eight runs over four innings and Ottawa fell to the Sussex County Miners 12-11.

The Champions looked in complete control of the ballgame through five frames. They tagged starter RHP Andrew Vinson, RHP Alex Fishberg and LHP Mark McCoy for four runs in the fourth inning and six runs in the fifth.

Ottawa had numerous offensive catalysts, with every batter reaching base on the day. 3B Jordan Caillouet went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while CF Chase Harris, 1B Vinny Guglietti and 2B Kyle Zirbes each had multi-run games. LF Coco Johnson had a pair of RBIs and has now reached base safely in eight straight games.

With Gapp labouring in the fifth, manager Hal Lanier lifted him in favour of RHP Bobby St. Pierre. St. Pierre failed to record an out, and RHP Andrew Cooper was brought in to stop the bleeding. After Cooper pitched a scoreless seventh, RHP Tyler Knigge walked in a run, and LHP Scott Maine entered and allowed Knigge's base runners to score.

The disappointing performance by the Champions (4-5) means they are now on a two-game losing streak, but they will have a chance to rebound in a three-game set with the New Jersey Jackals. That series gets underway on Tuesday, May 29, with Ottawa getting the opportunity to exact revenge on the Miners in a series at RCGT Park starting on Friday, June 2.
