C Adam Metts Signed To One-year Deal By New Orleans

October 31, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New Orleans VooDoo News Release

C Adam Metts, a standout for the New Orleans VooDoo in 2004, is returning to anchor the club's offensive line after agreeing to terms on a one-year contract, it was announced by the team today. Metts has played for the Georgia Force since departing New Orleans.

"Adam is one of the top centers in the league," said VooDoo head coach Mike Neu. "We targeted the interior of our offensive line as a priority entering free agency, and Adam was the player we wanted. His value has only become greater with the changes in the substitution rules before last season, and we are excited to have him back in New Orleans."

The Arena Football League amended their rules of play prior to last season, allowing linemen to just play one side of the ball. Prior to 2007 - such as when Metts was with the VooDoo in 2004 - linemen were required to play both offense and defense. Metts lined up at center and defensive tackle that season, but will play center exclusively again in 2008.

Metts (6-1, 280) originally joined the VooDoo in 2004 after spending his rookie season in 2003 with the Force. He appeared in 14 games in his lone season in New Orleans, seeing playing time on both offense and defense and posting three tackles and a pass defense.

In 2007 with Georgia, Metts appeared in 16 games, starting 15 at center. The Force led the AFL in total offense and finished third in scoring. In limited defensive action, Metts had 6.5 tackles and a sack. He entered the Arena Football League after playing at the University of North Carolina.

The addition of Metts is the latest in a flurry of recent signings by the VooDoo since the AFL free-agency period opened. WR Derrick Lewis - one of the league's top targets and a New Orleans native - was the club's key acquisition, a group that also includes DB Lin-J Shell and WR Sale' Key.
