Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have signed free-agent defensive lineman Terrance Royal to a two-year deal, Head Coach and General Manger Tim Marcum announced today.

"We are intrigued by Terrence, he put up some big numbers at South Florida," said Marcum. "We see an energetic player that can grow with us and we think that he can impact our pass rush."

Royal, 6-foot-1, 270-pounds, is the second local product to sign with the Storm in two days. He spent this past season playing for the Lakeland Thunderbolts in the AIFA (American Indoor Football Association). He recorded 19.5 sacks, 40 tackles, 12 for a loss and eight pass breakups during the regular season. A key component to the Thunderbolt defense Royal went on to win the 2007 AIFA championship with Lakeland.

A captain at the University of South Florida his senior season, Royal once owned the USF single-season (10) and career sack record (19.5). His senior season he earned All-Big East honors and Most Valuable Player on Defense. Royal prepped a Wharton High School where he made the All-County Team four years and All-State three years.

The Tampa Bay Storm look forward to the 2008 season as many key players from 2007 will return. AFL Co-Rookie of the year and All-Rookie quarterback Brett Dietz, All-Ironman Lawrence Samuels, record-setting fullback Torrance Marshall and touchdown-leading wide receiver Terrill Shaw, among others will be back to take the 2008 AFL season by storm.
