
Beach Bums Drop Slugfest in Schaumburg in Final Road Game

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(41-48) and Schaumburg Boomers(44-46) combined for 33 runs and 37 hits, but it was the Boomers taking today's afternoon tilt by a final score of 12-11.
Zack Weigel got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with a three run homer. The Beach Bums responded right away in the top of the second. Luke Lowery led off with a walk then moved to second when Noah McGowan was hit by a pitch. Alec Olund drove in Lowery with a double to center and McGowan scored on a wild pitch. Ryan Kemp followed with an RBI single then Kendall Patrick rocked a two run homer over the centerfield wall for a 5-3 lead.
Schaumburg took the lead back in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Jack Parenty and Weigel, and a Nick Oddo sacrifice fly, taking a 7-5 lead. In the third, Will Kengor led off with a single then Lowery doubled to advance Kengor to third. Alexis Rivera plated Lowery with a ground out and Noah McGowan hit an RBI single to tie the game at seven. Weigel hit a two-run double in the bottom of the inning, giving Schaumburg a 9-7 lead.
With one out in the fourth, Orlando Rivera reached on an infield single and Isaac Benard singled to center. Kengor then blasted a three-run homer over the centerfield wall, his 12th long ball of the year, giving the Bums the lead back. Olund led off the fifth with a single then moved to third when Kemp grounded out. Patrick lined a shot off of the pitcher but Olund was thrown out at third on the play. Orlando Rivera and Benard smacked back-to-back singles, with the latter scoring Patrick for an 11-9 lead.
In the sixth, Michael Hartnagel and Parenty hit RBI singles to tie the game at 11. From there, the bats went silent until the ninth inning when Parenty led off with a double then scored on a walk-off RBI single by Oddo. Today's game closes the road portion of the 2018 schedule as the Beach Bums finish with a 24-24 road record. They also won all four series against Schaumburg, winning the season series, 8-4.
Jake Joyce got the win for Schaumburg, improving his record to 4-1. He pitched the ninth inning, giving up a hit and striking out one. Augie Gallardo drops to 1-1 with today's loss. He went two and one-thirds innings, allowing a run on two hits, walking two, one intentionally, and striking out two.
