Summary Bowie's D.J. Stewart clubbed a two-run homer in thefirst inning, and right-hander David Hess picked up his league-leading sixthvictory, as the Baysox defeated the Akron RubberDucks, 7-2, Saturday night atCanal Park.
Turning Point After the Baysox (25-24) took an early 2-0 lead onStewart's eighth homer, Hess (6-3) avoided early disaster with a pair of keystrikeouts in the first inning. After giving up a RBI single by Bobby Bradleyto make the score 2-1, Hess was facing a bases-loaded, no-out situation. Heregrouped and struck out Yu Chang and Dorssys Paulino, and then retired JordanSmith on a grounder to first to limit the damage to one run and keep the leadintact.
Winging It Akron starter Nick Pasquale (3-4) suffered hissecond straight loss. He was charged with seven runs in five innings. Reliefhelp came from Perci Garner, who tossed a pair of scoreless innings in hisseason debut, and Cameron Hill, who also worked two scoreless innings. Hillfanned four hitters.
Duck Tales Francisco Mejia was 4-4, with double and a walk. Itwas his second straight multi-hit performance and raised his season average to .340.Bradley now has a team-high 26 RBI. Tyler Krieger smacked a lead-off double andscored in the first inning. Mark Mathias drove in a run in the sixth with asingle.
