Summary Bowie starter Matthew Grimes allowed just one run in six innings of work to quiet the Akron bats 6-4 at Canal Park on Memorial Day afternoon.

Turning Point Three doubles in the second inning by Bowie's Sean Coyle, Erick Salcedo, and Adrian Marin plated two runs to give Bowe an early 3-0 lead against Whitehouse and the RubberDucks. Stevie Wilkerson would add a two run homer in third to make it 5-0. A late push by the bats of RubberDucks Luigi Rodriguez and Eric Haase was not enough to overcome the early deficit.

Winging It Bowie starter Matthew Grimes threw six innings, five of which were scoreless frames to limit the RubberDucks lineup. His lone hiccup was a Luigi Rodriguez solo homer in the sixth. Left-hander Matt Whitehouse received his third spot-start of the season managing to only work 2.2 innings surrendering five hits, five runs, four of which were earned. In a bullpen heavy game, Robbie Aviles worked 2.1 innings allowing two hits and one run. Following Aviles, Mitch Brown worked two scoreless allowing no hits. Akron's Leandro Linares threw 1.2 scoreless in relief. He has now throw six scoreless innings in his combined four appearances since joining the team on May 20th .

Duck Tales Outfielder Luigi Rodriguez hit his first homerun of the season, a solo shot in the sixth to put the Ducks on the scoreboard.

Following back-to-back walks to begin the seventh, catcher Eric Haase hit a three run bomb to right center to cut the deficit to 6-4. Outfielder Jordan Smith went 1-3 Monday and is hitting .318 (7-22) in seven games since rejoining the RubberDucks from Triple-A Columbus.

Notebook RubberDucks ace Julian Merryweather was called-up to Triple-A Columbus prior to Monday's game... Top prospect Francisco Mejia had the day off Monday... Reliever Dylan Baker left the game with right shoulder soreness in the top of the eighth inning after throwing a pitch... Time of Game: 2:34...Attendance: 3,786. On Deck The RubberDucks travel to Altoona for a three game series beginning on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. with lefty Thomas Pannone (1-1, 2.60) on the mound against Altoona's Brandon Waddell (0-2, 4.29). The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM, the WARF iHeart channel, and the TuneIn Radio App.
