Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
NEWARK, Delaware - The Santa Cruz Warriors (3-7) defeated the Delaware 87ers (3-5) 116-102 on Tuesday night at the Bob Carpenter Sports Convocation Center. Six different Warriors scored in double-figures in the road victory that snapped a six-game losing streak.
Phil Pressey led the Warriors with 21 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds. Elgin Cook added 20 points and 5 rebounds, while Cam Jones notched 18 points and 5 assists.
The 87ers were paced by Cat Barber who scored a game-high 31 points. Shawn Long added 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Lorrenzo Wade added 16 points.
The opening quarter was a tightly-contested but low scoring affair, with neither team scoring a field goal in the first 3 minutes of the game. Made free throws would get the Warriors on the board, but the visitors would not score their first field goal until Cam Jones's driving reverse-layup at the 6:46 mark. Back-and-forth scoring saw Delaware and Santa Cruz knotted at 21 points heading into the second period.
Santa Cruz outscored Delaware 39-29 in the second quarter as Dennis Clifford and Terrence Drisdom combined for 17 points to help the Warriors to a ten-point advantage heading into the locker room.
The Warriors extended their lead to 15 points behind a 7-2 run in the first two minutes out of the break. Delaware would chip away at their deficit, fueled by a 10-3 run midway through the quarter, but would still have a double-digit deficit to overcome to start the fourth frame.
Santa Cruz would open the final frame on a 15-4 run and would lead by as many as 22 points to cruise to an emphatic victory, closing out their frustrating five-game road-stand.
The Santa Cruz Warriors return home to take on the Austin Spurs on Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:00 p.m. PST at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Fans can catch the game on Facebook Live, by visiting the Santa Cruz Warriors' Facebook page at tip-off.
