Red Claws Fall in Shootout to Reno

Santa Cruz, CA - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, lost a shootout to the Reno Bighorns in the final game of the NBA D-League Showcase 2016, 123-121. The two high-powered offenses combined for 70 three point field goal attempts.

Erick Green, the D-League's leading scorer, finished with 29 points in the win, and David Stockton hit crucial buckets down the stretch to give the win to Reno. For Maine, Boston Celtics assignees Terry Rozier finished with 29 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists, while Jordan Mickey added 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks.

Maine (12-8) started the game red-hot. The Claws ended the first quarter with a 36-31 lead, and maintained that advantage going into halftime. Reno poured it on in the third quarter, rallying to tie the game at 92 heading into the fourth.

In that final period, both teams went back-and-forth. Andre Stringer hit three three pointers in a row to give Maine a six-point edge. Green took over down the stretch, hitting crucial buckets to tie the game. Stockton's alley-oop lob pass went in the basket to give the Bighorns a 117-116 lead, then hit a tough turnaround on the next possession to put Reno up three.

The Red Claws had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but a costly turnover gave the ball back to the Bighorns and secured the victory for Reno.

Coty Clarke was solid off the bench with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Omari Johnson finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Levi Randolph, making the start for Maine, finished with 15 points, while Malcolm Miller added 11.

The Red Claws return home for two games against the Canton Charge this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16. Friday's game is at 7 p.m. while Saturday's contest has changed its start time to 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now by calling 207-210-6655 or visiting MaineRedClaws.com.
