Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

Green Bay, Wisconsin (September 13th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks played a strong game, but a goal in the final ten seconds was too much for the Lumberjacks to handle as they lost 3-2 to the U18 United States National Team Development Program.

The first period was a fast paced period of hockey. Both teams creating chances and opportunities. The Lumber- jacks were able to kill off two USNTDP power plays, while USNTDP created scoring chances in all areas of the offensive zone. The Lumberjacks possessed the puck well, but had nothing to show for it as USNTDP goalie Jake Oettinger kept everything out of his net. On the other side, Corbin Kaczperski stopped every shot he faced in the first period and the Lumberjacks went into the first period tied 0-0.

The Lumberjacks started the second period on a power play, and it did not take long for them to take advantage and breakthrough for the first goal of the game. Max Humitz was able to blast a wrist shot past Oettinger to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. Dante Palecco and Matej Paulovic had the assists on the goal.

Midway through the second period, the Lumberjacks forced another penalty and looked to increase their lead. However a couple missed opportunities and saves by Oettinger kept the game 1-0 until Graham McPhee for the USNTDP caught a puck with his hand coming out of the penalty box and went down on a breakaway to tie the game 1-1.

The third period was more of the same, with fast paced hockey on both ends of the ice. The USNTDP was able to take a 2-1 lead after Kieffer Bellows scored early. However, the Lumberjacks were able to score their second power play goal of the game when Collin Adams slapped in a rebound off Christopher Klack's shot.

The last couple minutes featured intense hockey. USNTDP was able to then control the puck late and with only 9.2 seconds to go, Joey Anderson fired a long wrist shot into the back of the net, giving the USNTDP a 3-2 vic- tory over the Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks will have a rematch with the U18 USNTDP Friday when they play each other at the Lemieux Sports Complex. Puck drop is at 5pm. This will be the first of two games in the Pittsburgh showcase for the Lumberjacks.
