D.C. United Under-23 Roster Announced

May 19, 2015 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
D.C. United News Release

Washington, D.C. (May 19, 2015) -- D.C. United has announced the roster for the Under-23 team that will compete in the 2015 Premier Development League. In partnership with Evergreen FC, the U-23 team is led by Head Coach and Evergreen FC Technical Director Richie Burke. The roster includes D.C. United Academy graduates, top local college talent as well as potential future professional players. The U-23 team will play its first home match at Evergreen Sportsplex vs. Ocean City on Saturday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m.

The U-23s provide an opportunity for players to work closely with D.C. United's First Team and a chance to gain both experience and exposure to MLS while competing for the Black-and-Red. D.C. United Assistant Coach Amos Magee is an advisor to the U-23 team, and select players from the U-23 squad will be given the opportunity to train alongside the First Team during their practice sessions at RFK.

As part of the partnership with Evergreen FC announced earlier this year, the D.C. United U-23 team will play its home games at the Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Va. Season passes to watch the U-23 team in action can be purchased by clicking on the following link: D.C. United U-23 Season Tickets.

The Premier Development League featured 64 teams within four conferences throughout the United States and Canada in 2014, including 12 teams affiliated with USL PRO or Major League Soccer clubs. The PDL has proven to be an important stepping-stone for top professionals now playing throughout the world, with 70 percent of all MLS draftees having PDL experience. The PDL season consists of 14 regular season matches for each team, seven home and seven away, and provides elite collegiate players the opportunity to taste a higher level of competition while maintaining their eligibility. In addition to league play, PDL teams compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup as well as various exhibitions.
