Nebraska Danger News Release

Defenses duked it out, but the Nebraska Danger used a 31-point second half to defeat the Cedar Rapids Titans 52-42.

The top two defenses in the IFL lived up to the hype in the first quarter. The Danger allowed 35 yards while the Titans only allowed 30. A Jameel Sewell pass to Kayne Farquharson with 6:39 left in the quarter put the Danger up 7-4, but the lead was short lived as the Titans scored a touchdown with 36 seconds left to end the quarter 10-7.

The defensive surge seemed to continue as the second quarter began. Cedar Rapids defensive lineman, Jermiah Price, returned a Danger fumble for a 35 yard touchdown four minutes into the quarter. The Danger, down 17-7 at that point, answered the call with two touchdowns before the half mainly due to Jameel Sewell's ability to maneuver in the pocket and find open receivers. Sewell finished the half 8-15 for 123 yards and three touchdowns. The Titans would not back down, scoring touchdowns twice, along with a rouge point to have the lead at the half 32-21.

"We just couldn't get anything going consistently," said Head Coach Mike Davis. "And when we did get things moving they matched us step for step and we couldn't get any breathing room."

The Titans received the ball to begin the second half, but three plays later Harcourt Farquharson intercepted the ball to give the Danger an opportunity to cut into the Titan lead. Jameel Sewell once again showed his ability to keep plays alive scrambling to set up a Danger field goal, making the score 32-24. The theme of the night, defense, came up big once again as Isaiah Scott intercepted Sam Durley with 2:25 left in the third quarter. The Danger wasted no time converting the turnover into points as Sewell connected with Marcus Barnett to give the Danger the go ahead score 38-35.

The fourth quarter went back and forth until Titans quarterback Sam Durley hit Willie Carter for a 16-yard touchdown giving them back the lead 42-38, but a Danger kick return to the Titan 19-yard line kept things interesting. Three plays later, Jameel Sewell snuck in for a touchdown on a quarterback keeper, giving the Danger back the lead 44-42 with less than four minutes left in the game.

"Jameel was great tonight," Davis said. "His athleticism kept plays alive time and time again and that made the difference in the long run."

In the final minutes of the game, the Danger defense came up huge as Sam Durley threw the ball away on fourth down turning the ball over on downs. The Danger did not squander the opportunity to put the game away as Jameel Seweel, on another quarterback sneak, managed to find his way into the end zone to make the score 52-42. The Titans had only allowed 18 points total in the second half of their last two games, but gave up 31 in the second half tonight.

"We have an amazing atmosphere here that is second to none," Davis said. "When the time came, our defense and this crowd came alive and helped us get the win."

The Danger next play the Iowa Barnstormers on April 18th before returning home to the Eihusen Arena on April 24th to play the Bemidji Axemen.
