Erie BayHawks News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania, Thursday, March 12, 2015 - The Erie BayHawks (18-22) defeated the Central Division-leading Sioux Falls Skyforce (23-18) 109-99 to win their fifth game in their last six matches. Six different BayHawks scored in double figures as Erie's bench provided 43 points to key the BayHawks victory.

The BayHawks started the game on a 9-4 run after Joe Crawford, who replaced NBA Call-Up Seth Curry in the starting rotation, nailed a three. Scotty Hopson would lead a mini run for the Skyforce to take their first lead of the game midway through the quarter. Recently acquired Keith Appling scored four points in the quarter, along with four other BayHawks players, to balance the scoring with Curry gone.

The second half featured 11 ties and seven lead changes as Joe Crawford went 3-3 and led with 11 points. All ten of the BayHawks players were able to get points on the board for the first time in any half this season, but the balanced attack still had Erie trailing at the half, 56-51. Both teams shot around 50% from the field, but struggled behind the arc, shooting a combined 4-21.

The BayHawks were able to tie the game back up with just over six minutes to play in the third quarter on a John Bohannon layup. This marked the first of four more occasions the match was deadlocked as the game continued to be tight throughout the quarter. A Drew Crawford jumper to finally give Erie the lead in the third was quickly answered by Scotty Hopson, who scored a NBA Development League season high 52 points in a game earlier this season against Reno. Sioux Falls ended on a 7-0 run to give them their biggest lead of the game.

Erie would battle back to gain the lead yet again on Drew Crawford's steal and conversion on the other end. Siva's three from the top of the key gave Erie their largest lead of the half at four with 2:35 remaining in the game. Possessions later, Drew Crawford nailed a corner dagger to extend the lead to eight, as Erie would eventually pull it out 109-99.

Peyton Siva led Erie with 24 points and seven assists, his third straight 20+ game. Joe Crawford scored a season high 17 points in his first start as a BayHawk and Drew Crawford provided 15 points. Sioux Falls' Khem Birch led the team with 19 points and ten rebounds. All five of their starters scored double-digits.

The BayHawks play again tomorrow night at Erie Insurance Arena, this time against the Westchester Knicks. Erie will then travel to Maine to play the Red Claws on Sunday.
