Tigers Win in 14 Innings

Niles, OH "" The Connecticut Tigers (16-17) defeated the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (11-22) by a score of 10-9 in a 14 inning marathon. LF Rashad Brown (3-6) put the Tigers in front in the top of the 14th inning with a go ahead RBI double that scored 1B Will Maddox (1-4). Besides the go ahead RBI double, Brown put together a three hit performance that included four RBI's.

The offense put together a six run seventh inning to put the Tigers in front for the first time in the game at 9-5 after trailing by three runs. Each one of the Tigers had a hit in the game. 2B Domingo Leyba (3-5) had a three hit performance along with an RBI. CF Ross Kivett (1-6), RF Mike Gerber (1-7), DH Kasey Coffman (1-5), C Franklin Navarro (2-6) each chipped in with an RBI in the game. 3B Joey Pankake (1-3) walked a Tigers season high four times.

The Tigers used six pitchers in the game that combined for the 14 inning victory. In a no decision RHP Chase Edwards pitched five innings while allowing five runs on nine hits. The Tigers had a four run lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, but RHP Paul Voelker (BS, 1) gave up a game tying grandslam to 1B Leo Castillo (3-7). RHP Gabe Hemmer (1-0) picked up his professional victory after pitching two scoreless innings while giving up three hits and striking out three. Hemmer struck out RF Juan De La Cruz (0-1) to end the game.

In the series finale at Eastwood Field, Tigers RHP A.J. Ladwig (0-1, 4.50) is slated to face Scrappers LHP Sean Brady (1-1, 3.03). The pre-game show begins at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH and cttigers.com.

The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are in their 5th season at Dodd Stadium. Tickets are now on sale!
