Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks announced several transactions on Thursday in advance of Saturday's matchup with the Portland Thunder. The team has been assigned quarterback Alex Carder and defensive lineman Thomas Mulabah. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
The 24-year-old Carder (6'2", 220) is an Arena Football League rookie who participated in the Iowa Barnstormers' training camp prior to the start of this season. Carder got his first taste of professional football with the Detroit Lions, as he was signed by the team as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft. Carder participated in rookie minicamp with the Lions before being waived on May 29, 2013.
Carder attended Western Michigan University, where he spent three seasons as the Broncos' starting quarterback. As a junior in 2011, Carder ranked eighth among all players in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision with an average of 335.18 yards of total offense per game. In a game against Toledo that season, Carder set new school records with 548 passing yards and seven touchdowns. Carder is a native of Springfield, Missouri.
The 24-year-old Mulabah (6'1" 290) has spent time with the Sharks this season. Mulabah participated in the Sharks' training camp and remained with the team when he was placed on injured reserve at the start of the regular season. Mulabah rejoins the Sharks after being placed on reassignment prior to Week 6.
Mulabah spent his collegiate career at the California University of Pennsylvania. Mulabah was a standout at the Division II level, earning D2Football.com Second-Team All-American honors as a senior in 2011. That season, Mulabah logged 70 total tackles (32 solo), 15.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks while also recording four fumble recoveries and two blocked kicks.
In other Thursday transactions, the Sharks announced that offensive lineman Tori Mobley and wide receiver Andrae Thurman have been placed on reassignment.
