Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO - The Chicago Sky has signed free agents Aaryn Ellenberg and Yvonne Turner to training camp contracts. Per team policy, contract terms were not disclosed.
Aaryn Ellenberg, a 5'7 guard, started and played in 30 games for Oklahoma last season. In 2013-14 the All-American candidate helped the Sooners to their 15th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in school history. She finished the season as the Big 12 Conference's second leading scorer with 19.3 points per game. In a game on January 8, Ellenberg scored a career-high 37 points against Texas. In her final game as a Sooner, she poured in 36 points in her team's NCAA First Round loss versus DePaul (March 22). The shooting guard scored 20 or more points in 15 games and shot 41 percent from the field.
Ellenberg was one of the nation's top 3-point shooters in 2013-14. She led the Sooners with 3-pointers made (92) and shot 36 percent from 3-point range. With the ability to score in the paint and shoot the long ball, Ellenberg was one of the nation's most dangerous offensive players. She also averaged 4.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Ellenberg was a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 selection. Last summer she was one of 12 players selected to represent the United States' women's basketball team at the World University Games.
Yvonne Turner, a 5'9 point guard, graduated from Nebraska in 2010. In her senior season, Turner averaged 12.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game and helped the Cornhuskers to a record-breaking 32-2 record. She was just the sixth player in Nebraska University history with 1,000 points, 200 assists and 200 steals. In her final campaign, Turner was named first-team All-Big 12 and 2010 Big 12 co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Following her collegiate career, Turner played overseas in Australia, Germany and Russia before signing a training camp contract with the San Antonio Stars in 2013. She appeared in two preseason games for San Antonio.
In 2010, Turner played for the Bundaberg Bears in the Australia QBL averaging 23.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game. In the summer of 2011, Turner returned to the Bundaberg Bears and led her team to the Championship final averaging 25.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. In the 2012-13 season, Turner signed with the Dynamo GUVD Novosibirks in Russia and averaged 14.5 points, 3.4 assists and 3 rebounds. This year, Turner averaged 12 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists for Antakya in the Turkish League.
