Kansas City Mavericks News Release

Independence, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks announced Friday the Central Hockey League (CHL) team has signed rookie forward Tyler Currier and rookie defenseman Anders Franzon for the 2013-14 season. The Mavericks are currently at 14 players signed to their pre-season roster.

Currier, 25 (7/5/88), spent the last four seasons playing at the University of Alaska - Anchorage. Currier amassed 15 points (7-8=15) in his 103 game college career. Before attending the University of Alaska, he spent three seasons with the Alaska Avalanche of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). The 6-foot-2, 205 pound forward totaled 84 points (36-48=84) in 124 games.

"We believe these two NCAA graduates have what it takes to make a successful transition to professional hockey. Tyler is a big, physical centerman that has the potential to get in on the forecheck and win battles down low in the offensive zone," Hillman said. "Anders skates very well and plays with a lot of grit on the blueline; with his strongest asset being his defensive positioning."

The last four seasons, Franzon, 24 (1/27/89), played at the University of Vermont. The 6-foot-3, 196 pound defenseman finished his college career with 24 points (4-20=24) in 125 games. Prior to the University of Vermont, Franzon spent a season with the Nanaimo Clippers in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). He tallied 20 points (8-12=20) in 58 games.

The Missouri Mavericks will host their fourth annual Fan Fest on Sat., Sept. 21 at Independence Events Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Mavericks will begin their fifth season of play in the CHL in October. Season tickets are on sale now. With season tickets starting at just over $11 per game and FREE parking, the Mavericks are the pinnacle of family affordable entertainment.
