
Cats Fall To Huskies In Rain

Jake Heissler allowed just one hit over five innings and the Duluth Huskies went on to beat the Border Cats 5-1 Thursday night at Subway Field in a game that was shortened to 5 1/2 innings because of rain. Heissler lost his no-hit bid when Philip Lyons (Nicholls State University) connected for his first home run of the season in the bottom of the 5th inning. The righthander from Central Missouri University walked three and struck out three as he upped his record to 5-2. Jordan Church (Sam Houston State University) took the loss to fall to 0-5. Church pitched five innings and gave up four runs on seven hits with four walks and one strikeout.
Michael Suiter had a two-run double for the Huskies they evened the Superior Cup season series at four games apiece. The loss dropped the Cats second half record to 4-15. NWL All Star pitcher Zach Thiac (Nicholls State University) made his final appearance of the season for the Cats and allowed one run in one inning of work. Thiac, who has reached his innings pitched limit for the summer, appeared in 23 games and had a 2-1 record with a 2.85 ERA.
The Cats and Huskies play the middle game of their three-game series tonight at 7:05pm. Caleb Smith (Rice University) is the scheduled starter on the mound for Thunder Bay. Smith is 1-1 in nine games with a 5.31 ERA.
