Birmingham Barons News Release

In a game that was called due to rain in the 6th, the Barons picked up a series victory by a score of 1-0 over the Jackson Generals, capping a tremendous first half in front of 4,973 fans at Regions Field.

The Barons scored the games only run in the first on an Andy Wilkins RBI double, scoring Trayce Thompson. Thompson would finish with his second-straight three-hit game, going 3-for-3.

But the story again was Barons ace Erik Johnson (8-2, 2.23) who picked up his third complete game of the season and first shutout, allowing three hits while striking out four over 5.0 IP. The win was his league-leading eighth of the season.

After walking a batter to lead off the sixth, the umpires called for the tarp and the game was delayed for 47 minutes before being called due to severe weather in the area.

With the win, the Barons improved to 44-26, their fourth-best half over the past 22 season. The win also tied them with the Durham Bulls and South Bend Silver Hawks for the 2nd most wins in Minor League baseball this season.

The Barons have an off-day on Tuesday before traveling to Mississippi for a five-game series against the Braves to begin the season's second half. LHP Scott Snodgress (7-5, 5.02) will take the hill in game one, looking to match Johnson with his 8th win of the season. He'll be opposed by RHP Cody Martin (3-3, 2.82). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM CDT Wednesday.
