Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA-California League All Star Alex Yarbrough secured his club a sweep of the Stockton Ports (35-31) with a walk off three-run home run in the 11th inning Wednesday night at San Manuel Stadium for a 7-4 Inland Empire 66ers (35-31) victory.

Trying for their first sweep of Stockton since 2006, the 66ers seemed to be on the right track early, scoring two runs in the 2nd and taking a 4-1 lead into the 5th after doubles by Zach Borenstein and Brian Hernandez. In just his second start of his California League career Jake Boyd threw a quality outing. The right hander allowed just three runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Despite taking a two run advantage into the 7th, the Ports were able to tie the game, and force extra innings against the 66ers. Stockton had a man in scoring position in the top of the 10th but Eric Cendejas forced a pop out from the next Port batter to end the inning. In the home half the 66ers loaded the bases but failed to score the game winner.

In the 11th after a second inning of clutch relief work from Cendejas, the 66ers bats went to work against Jake Brown. The southpaw walked two 66ers hitters to bring Alex Yarbrough to the plate. Yarbrough singled off Brown in the 10th and homered off him earlier this season. This time Yarbrough hit the first pitch of the at bat onto home run hill for a walk off game winner.

Inland Empire will try for a sixth straight win and attempt to keep the pressure on division leading Lancaster on Thursday when they open a four game series at High Desert. The 66ers tragic number is down to three after a JetHawk win Wednesday, with just four games left in the first half.
