Training Camp Report - Day 9

Montreal Alouettes News Release
Sherbrooke, June 10, 2013 - After a day of meetings and film review, the Alouettes were back on Coulter Field on the campus of Bishop's University Monday. They weren't the only ones back following a leave of absence however, as the sun also returned after appearing scarcely since the start of camp. Players practised twice in the morning, donning their helmets and pads for the second session.
Both the offence and the defence shone during the day's workouts, making plays on each side of the ball that got teammates riled up. Byron Parker proved just why he leads the CFL for career interceptions returned for touchdowns when he shadowed receiver Eric Deslauriers during his rout, snagging the ball at the last second and robbing the non-import of a sure catch. Defensive lineman Alan-Michael Cash also made a pick after a pass bounced off a couple of players.
Brandon London, S.J. Green, Jamel Richardson and Arland Bruce all capitalized on the looks they got, proving that the Alouettes' receiving corps will be a force to be reckoned with in 2013.
Calvillo to play Thursday
Head coach Dan Hawkins confirmed that quarterback Anthony Calvillo will be starting Thursday night when the Alouettes host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Percival Molson Stadium.
"I want Anthony and our starters to play for a few series," explained Hawkins. "When I asked Anthony if he wanted to play, he told me he did. I think it's good that he does since we have a new coaching staff and it's good that we get a feel. We'll give Josh (Neiswander) and Quinton (Porter) an equal opportunity to fight for the number two job."
Calixte joins coaching staff
Former Calgary Stampeders linebacker Marc Calixte will join the Alouettes' coaching staff as a quality control assistant coach intern, a job that the Alouettes created this spring together with Football Quebec. The Montrealer played ten seasons with the Stampeders before retiring this past March. The Alouettes plan to hire one more coach at this position.
Quick hits
Long snapper Martin Bedard now wears number 50... Brandon Whitaker was back on the field with the first offence on Monday, even returning some kicks at one point during the day... Dominic Rhodes, who was back in action after attending his son's graduation in Texas, had a long run during practice, which got Coach Hawkins fired up.
