Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - A play at the plate capped off a dramatic ninth inning, but it was the Quakes who came up on the losing end of the drama. Rancho was dropped, 4-3, by the visiting Inland Empire 66ers at LoanMart Field on Monday night.

With the Quakes down a run, Jonathan Garcia lifted a ball into shallow center field. 66ers centerfielder Andy Workman caught the fly ball and fired home as Casio Grider attempted to tag up on the play. Grider was called out by home plate umpire Ron Teague to end the game, much to the dismay of Quakes manager Carlos Subero, who raced from the third-base line to argue the controversial call.

In his 7 1/3 innings of work, Quakes starter Lindsey Caughel (L, 1-3) allowed four earned runs -- two of which came once he was relieved by Dan Coulombe -- and struck out four, but was tagged with the loss.

In his third rehab appearance with the Quakes on his current rehab assignment, Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a double in six innings. A decision will be made tomorrow by the Dodgers whether to activate Ramirez, or let him continue another day of rehab in Rancho Cucamonga.

On the Inland Empire front, former Quake Peter Bourjos made his first rehab start. The Angels centerfielder went 1-for-3 with a triple and an RBI in five innings for the 66ers. Bourjos is scheduled to play for the 66ers in eacn of the next two games at LoanMart Field.

Tied 2-2, Caughel allowed back-to-back singles in the top of the eighth before pulled in favor of Coulombe. The left-hander promptly served up a two-run double to 66ers left fielder Zach Borenstein to give Inland Empire the final advantage.

Scott Schebler enjoyed a 1-for-4 night with an RBI double to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Inland Empire reliever Ty Kelly (W, 2-1) earned the victory, pitching two scoreless innings while striking out a pair. Mike Morin earned his eighth save of the season for the 66ers.

Sitting three games under .500 in the standings at 27-30, the Quakes will turn to Jarret Martin (3-5, 4.01 ERA) on Tuesday night to start a new winning streak. Kramer Sneed (4-1, 3.54 ERA) takes the mound for Inland Empire.
