Owen Sound Attack News Release
Players, parents and a strong showing of fans came out to Duncan McLellan park on Sunday morning to watch four teams of current Attack players and prospects battle it out in the inaugural Bell/Attack Softball Blast. Daniel Catenacci (Red), Jordan Binnington (Black), Daniel Zweep (White) and Keevin Cutting (Gold) all captained their teams on Sunday morning with Daniel Zweep's team prevailing in the finals over Team Binnington. This is the first open Softball Day the Attack have had and the organization wishes to thank all of the fans who showed up to support the morning.
At 1:00pm, the doors opened to the Bell BBQ where hundreds of fans joined the Attack players, prospects and staff to enjoy some good summer BBQ and hand out the 2012/2013 Awards. Mayor Deborah Haswell, MPP Bill Walker and MP Larry Miller kicked things off by welcoming the fans to the BBQ prior to giving out the awards.
Jordan Binnington took home three awards on the afternoon (Best Goaltenders, Becker Shoes Award and Team MVP) while Daniel Catenacci (Attack Pak Award, Leading Scorer), Chris Bigras (Scholastic Award, Top NHL Draft Prospect) and Kurtis Gabriel (Leadership and Perseverance, Unsung Here) each took home two awards.
Brayden Rose (Most Improved Defenseman), Daniel Zweep (Humanitarian of the Year), Holden Cook (Positive Outlook), Jaden Lindo (Rookie of the Year), Ethan Szypula (1st Round Draft Pick), Zach Nastasiuk (playoff MVP), Keevin Cutting (Contribution to the Organization) and Nathan Chiarlitti (Player's Choice Award) all took home single awards.
While handing out the best goaltender award, Brandon Hope was also recognized for his part in receiving the Dan Pinkney award, which is given to the goaltenders whose team had the lowest goals against in the Ontario Hockey League.
The Attack wish to thank all of the prospects, players and most importantly, the fans who made this a day to remember.
