Long Island Ducks News Release
Central Islip, N.Y. - The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of left-handed pitcher Royce Ring. The 32-year-old begins his first season with the Ducks and in the Atlantic League.
"Royce has been a successful pitcher at every level throughout his career," says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. "We are excited to add him to our pitching staff as the First Half pennant race heats up."
Ring has five seasons of Major League experience, spending time with the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees. His best season came in 2007 when he combined to go 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 26 games with the Padres and Braves. The lefty made his big league debut on April 29, 2005 with the Mets and retired the only batter he faced. He last pitched in the Majors in 2010 as a member of the Yankees.
The California native has 11 seasons of minor league experience and a career record of 32-18 with a 3.06 ERA and 57 saves in 408 games (one start). He has also struck out 400 batters in 421 innings during that span. The San Diego State University alum and 2002 First Team All-American split time in 2012 with Tulsa (AA, Rockies) and Colorado Springs (AAA, Rockies), compiling a 1-0 record with a 1.12 ERA in 20 appearances. Ring was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the first round (18th overall pick) of the 2002 amateur draft.
In a corresponding roster move, the Ducks placed left-handed pitcher Eric Niesen on the inactive list.
