York Revolution News Release

James Shanks' two-run double in the bottom of the eighth gave him sole possession of the York Revolution's all-time hits record and closed a once six-run deficit to one, but the Sugar Land Skeeters held on to defeat the Revs 6-5 in the series opener at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday evening. Sugar Land improves to 26-5 with its fourth consecutive win, while the Revs fall to 17-15. The two teams will meet each of the next two nights in York to close out the Revs' seven-game homestand.

York trailed 6-0 in the sixth inning, but nearly came all the way back. The Revs scored a pair of runs in the sixth as Andres Perez crossed the plate on a wild pitch and Salvador Paniagua ripped an RBI single to center. The Revs then closed the gap further in the eighth, scoring three times against reliever Gary Majewski who had not allowed a run all season entering the night. Perez led off the inning with a single to right-center and Brian Burgamy doubled off the left field wall to set the stage. With one out, Cody Johnson singled to left field to cut the deficit to 6-3. Then with two outs, Shanks drove a two-run double to right-center, just out of the reach of center fielder Adam Godwin's diving attempt, bringing the Revs within a run. It was the 375th hit of Shanks' Revolution career, moving past Scott Grimes for the all-time record after tying the record with a second inning single in his first at-bat. Reliever Roy Corcoran came on to retire Tyler Graham on a groundout, however, leaving Shanks at second as the tying run. Closer Jason Bergmann then slammed the door with a perfect ninth for his seventh save.

Sugar Land went in front early with a two-run homer to left-center by Dustin Martin in the top of the first. Josh Pressley then connected on a solo homer to right in the third inning, extending the lead to 3-0. The Skeeters padded that advantage with three runs in the sixth, by way of a two-run double down the third base line from Anthony Granato, who then scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-0.

Skeeters starter Scott Elarton (3-2) earned the win, giving up just two runs in 5.2 innings after taking a shutout into the sixth. York's Corey Thurman (2-5) suffered the loss, charged with all six runs in his 5.2 innings of work.

Sugar Land 's 15 hits matched the most given up by the Revs in a game this season, and are the most allowed by the Revs in a nine-inning game this year. Of the 15 hits, however, 12 were singles, including four infield hits.

York 's Brett Tomko (1-3, 3.32) faces Sugar Land's Bobby Livingston (2-2, 5.40) in Wednesday's game at 6:30 p.m. There will be a PSECU game-worn jersey auction benefiting Children's Miracle Network, and it is also a Maple Donuts Night. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
