SAN BERNARDINO - Austin Fleet and three relievers combined to limit Inland Empire to one run as the San Jose Giants earned a 5-1 victory over the 66ers on Monday evening at San Manuel Stadium. The Giants scored three runs in the top of the second inning to take the early lead and never looked back en route to the win. The victory improves San Jose's record to 29-15 while the Giants maintain their one-game lead over the Visalia Rawhide (28-16) in the first half North Division race.

Fleet (4-1) allowed just one run on six hits over the first six innings to pick-up the win. The right-hander struck out three and walked none during his stint on the mound. Josh Osich (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO), Cody Hall (1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) and Hunter Strickland (1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO) each struck out a pair in a scoreless inning of relief to seal the San Jose victory.

Mac Williamson (2-for-5, 3B) and Angel Villalona (2-for-5, 2B, RBI) produced a triple and a double respectively during the pivotal second-inning rally to lead the Giants offensively. Brock Bond (2-for-4, 3B) and Bobby Haney (2-for-4) also finished with two hits apiece.

After neither team scored in the first, Williamson began the top of the second with a triple off the fence in deep right center field. Villalona followed with a line drive double off the wall in left center to plate Williamson with the first run of the night. Jeff Arnold then walked while Villalona scored when the next batter, Chris Lofton, grounded into a double play. The rally restarted as Haney singled before Bond lined a single to right advancing Haney to third. On the play, 66ers right fielder Andy Workman mishandled the ball for an error allowing Bond to move to second. And then Workman threw the ball away for another error as Haney raced home to make it 3-0.

San Jose extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the third as Ryan Cavan led off with a single before he was forced out on Devin Harris' fielder's choice grounder. With two outs, Villalona singled and then Arnold grounded a single up the middle to plate Harris.

Inland Empire's only run of the contest came in the bottom of the third as Trevor Hairgrove singled to begin the frame before Joel Capote lined an RBI triple to left. Fleet though would prevent further damage as Ryan Jones flied out to right. Capote tagged on the play and attempted to score, but was thrown out by Williamson as the catcher Arnold absorbed a collision at the plate.

Fleet then pitched around a pair of singles in the bottom of the fourth and a two-out double in the fifth to maintain the 4-1 advantage. Fleet finished his outing with a 1-2-3 bottom of the sixth inning.

In the top of the seventh, Bond led off with a triple into the right center field gap and scored when the next batter, Payne, hit a sacrifice fly.

Osich breezed through a perfect bottom of the seventh out of the bullpen before Hall worked around a two-out single in the eighth to keep the 66ers off the scoreboard. In the ninth, Strickland struck out Michael Snyder, induced Brian Hernandez to ground out and then struck out Workman to finish the game.

Inland Empire starting pitcher Danny Reynolds (4-4) suffered the loss after yielding four runs (three earned) on eight hits over six innings. Reynolds walked two and struck out four.
