Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

MIDLAND - Jake Buchanan turned in another fine start and the Hooks used a quartet of relievers to engineer the club's seventh shutout victory of the season, a 1-0 triumph over the RockHounds Friday night at Citibank Ballpark.

Corpus Christi (24-17) has authored three 1-0 wins and two have come against Midland (19-22).

Buchanan (4-0), the Texas League ERA leader (0.93), yielded just five hits and struck out five over five innings. He walked Beau Taylor in the second, marking Buchanan's first free pass thru his last 21.1 innings. He has not allowed a run over his last five appearances, spanning 22.2 frames.

Rehabbing Astro Josh Fields continued his run of perfect relief, notching a 1-2-3 sixth inning. Carlos Quevedo worked 1.2 innings and allowed one hit while striking out two.

The RockHounds went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven, including Chad Oberacker, who stroked a pair of one-out triples.

Oberacker was at third in the eighth when lefty Kenny Long entered in relief of Quevedo. Long walked Anthony Aliotti and fell behind former Hook Jake Goebbert 2-0 before being lifted for Patrick Urkfitz. The southpaw from Penfield, NY, induced a grounder to second to end the inning.

Dusty Coleman served a lead-off single to right in the ninth. Urckfitz promptly picked him off at first base and retired the next two batters for his first save of the season.

Corpus Christi posted the night's lone run in the fifth. Jonathan Meyer extended his hit streak to six games with a lead-off single thru the right side. One out later, former Oakland farmhand Max Stassi belted the first pitch from Murphy Smith (4-4) high off the tall wall in left for his first double and RBI No. 4 of the season.

Frank Gailey was impressive in relief for the RockHounds, retiring all seven men he faced.

The series continues Saturday night as Zach Neal (3-1, 2.63) takes on the Hooks tandem of Nick Tropeano (0-2, 2.25) and Bobby Doran (5-1, 3.16). First pitch is 7:00.
