Patriots Rally to Defeat Blue Crabs 8-5

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 8-5 at TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Blue Crabs scored in the first to take an early lead on an RBI single by Ryan Mulhern and an RBI double by Cyle Hankerd to make the score 3-0.
Southern Maryland added to their lead the following inning on a sacrifice fly by Brian Barton for the 4-0 advantage.
The Blue Crabs extended their lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Jeremy Owens to make the score 5-0.
Somerset rallied to bring home four runs in the bottom half of the frame on an RBI base hit by Eddy Martinez-Esteve and a three run double by Jonny Tucker to cut the lead to 5-4.
Corey Smith drove a two run blast (2) over the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Somerset on top 6-5.
The Patriots got two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a solo homerun by Aharon Eggleston (1) and an RBI single by Tucker for the 8-5 lead.
Patriots reliever Derell McCall (1-0) picked up the win after allowing a run and striking out one in three innings of relief. Southern Maryland starter Daryl Thompson (2-3) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings pitched. Jon Hunton came on to pitch the ninth and pick up his 11th save of the season.
