CLEARWATER (May 15, 2013) -The Clearwater Threshers snapped a losing skid at two games with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Bradenton Marauders Wednesday morning in front of 2,287 fans at Bright House Field.

The Threshers (20-18) used a three-run seventh inning to pull away from the pesky Marauders (15-24), who had taken the first two games of the four-game set between the clubs. Clearwater turned a bases-loaded double play at a critical juncture to keep the game close.

Clearwater struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Bradenton starter Eliecer Navarro (0-7). Designated hitter Carlos Alonso worked the count to 2-2 before slamming a fastball into the left field seats for a solo homer to lead off the inning. The blast was Alonso's third homer of the season, and gave the Threshers a 1-0 lead.

Bradenton evened things up in the top of the fifth against Threshers reliever Severino Gonzalez. Taylor Lewis led off the inning, and reached second on a throwing error by second baseman Jonathan Roof. Carlos Mesa singled Lewis to third, and Alen Hanson laced a single to right to score Lewis and knot things up at 1-1. Gonzalez then hit Benji Gonzalez with a pitch to load the bases with no outs. However, the righty was able to strike out Gregory Polanco and induce a double play from Jose Osuna to end the inning with the score still tied.

The Threshers moved back ahead in the bottom of the seventh. Left fielder Cameron Perkins singled deep in the hole to shortstop to lead things off. Shortstop Jose Mojica lined a single to left that Taylor Lewis misplayed, allowing Perkins to reach third and Mojica to advance to second with no outs. Catcher Logan Moore hit a twisting fly ball that bounced up into the right field seats for a ground-rule double, scoring both runners. Gustavo Martinez reached on a bunt single, moving Moore over to third in the process. With one out, Roof blooped a single into left field to score Moore and make it a 4-1 Clearwater lead.

Clearwater starter Mario Hollands went four scoreless innings, allowing four hits and striking out five. Severino Gonzalez surrendered an unearned run on two hits against three strikeouts in two innings. Luis Paulino (1-3) got the win for Clearwater, fanning two and allowing a hit and a walk in one scoreless inning. Colton Murray pitched two shutout frames for his third save, walking two and whiffing a pair.

Navarro took the loss for the Marauders, with four runs allowed on eight hits and a walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out five and hit a batter. Robbie Kilcrease pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief, with one strikeout against a hit and a walk.

Clearwater will look for a series split Thursday night at Bright House Field, with righty Gabriel Arias going for the Threshers against Marauders right-hander Robby Rowland. It's Thirsty Thursday at Bright House Field, with all drinks two for the price of one! Gates open at 6 p.m., and first pitch is scheduled for 7:00, with Ben Gellman's pregame show kicking off at 6:45 on ThreshersBaseball.com.
