
Bats silenced in New Hampshire, 'Dogs fall 3-0

(Manchester, N.H.) - New Hampshire's Marcus Walden (2-4) tossed 7.2 scoreless frames on two hits and John Stilson retired the final four batters on strikeouts, leading the Fisher Cats (18-21) to a 3-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (22-14) on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Peter Hissey came through with Portland's first hit, a single with two outs in the sixth. Heiker Meneses had a two-out single in the eighth and Travis Shaw singled with two gone in the ninth. The Sea Dogs did not have a runner past third base.
Walden induced 13 groundball outs, walked two and fanned six, to earn his first win since April 26th at Reading. Stilson made his first appearance of the year, and earned the save by striking out Michael Almanzar to end the night.
Left-hander Drake Britton (3-3) was saddled with the loss. Britton yielded six hits, two runs, four walks and fanned five over 5 IP. The lefty threw 95 pitches but only 53 strikes.
New Hampshire scored the first 2 runs of the series in the third inning. Kevin Pillar led off with a double and scored on a single by Brian Van Kirk. Two batters later, Brad Glenn lined a run-scoring single to center field.
The Fisher Cats added the final run in the sixth inning off Jeremy Kehrt. With one out, Kevin Ahrens drew a walk, advanced to second base on a wild pitch and to third on a ground out. Pillar beat out an infield single for his third hit and 20th RBI of the season.
Pete Ruiz worked a scoreless eighth for Portland, allowing two hits, but recorded two strikeouts. Ruiz has 29 strikeouts in 15 IP.

The Sea Dogs and New Hampshire Fisher Cats continue their 3-game series on Wednesday night from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium - game time is 6:35 PM. Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (1-0, 3.38) makes his third start of the season for Portland. New Hampshire will counter with Right-hander Deck McGuire (2-3, 5.11).
