Colorado Eagles & Winnipeg Jets Part Ways

WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL and the Winnipeg Jets of the NHL announced today that they have mutually opted not to extend their affiliation agreement for the 2013-14 season. The two clubs, along with the Jets' American Hockey League affiliate the St. John's IceCaps had operated as affiliates since the 2011-12 season.

"We would like to thank both the Winnipeg Jets and the St. John's Ice Caps for their efforts and assistance during the last two years," said Eagles President & General Manager, Chris Stewart. "The Jets and the IceCaps provided the Colorado Eagles with some very dynamic young players whose contributions both on the ice and in the community were fantastic. We appreciate our relationship with the Jets and the IceCaps and our dealings with them were nothing but first-class."

The Eagles saw several standout players make their way to Colorado via the team's affiliation, including Jake Marto, Cody Sol, Ryan Schnell, Ray Kaunisto and Akim Aliu. Aliu donned both a Colorado Eagles sweater and that of the Calgary Flames of the NHL during the 2011-12 campaign, playing in 10 games with Colorado and 2 games with Calgary.

Stewart also affirmed the fact the Eagles will consider several options for the upcoming ECHL season. "Eagles fans can rest assured that we have many opportunities to explore for next season. We have already had NHL clubs express interest in potentially forming an affiliation with the Colorado Eagles. We will also investigate the possibility of being independent of an NHL affiliation. We will do our due diligence in making the best possible decision moving forward and allow that decision to put us in the best possible position to win a championship."
