Indiana Fever News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Fever forward Shyra Ely-Gash will miss the 2013 WNBA season due to a ruptured Achilles tendon in her right foot sustained last week in practice.
A local graduate of Ben Davis High School and a former Indiana Miss Basketball, Ely-Gash joined her hometown team in 2011. She had hoped to play in her seventh WNBA season, but for the second straight year lost that opportunity due to injury. Last May, she tore her left ACL to end hopes of competing in 2012.
Ely-Gash averaged over 10 minutes per game while playing in 33 of 34 contests for the Fever in 2011. She averaged 3.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. She also missed the 2010 WNBA season due to a ruptured right patellar tendon.
A WNBA playoff participant in eight straight seasons and nine times since 2002, the Indiana Fever became the champion of women's professional basketball after defeating the Minnesota Lynx for the 2012 WNBA Championship. The Fever is the only team in WNBA history to record seven 20-win seasons during an 8-year span, a current streak that dates to 2005. During that time, the Fever has reached at least the Eastern Conference Finals five times while appearing in the WNBA Finals in 2009 and 2012. Indiana hosts its 2013 home opener on Friday, May 31 (7:00 p.m.) against the Atlanta Dream. For 2013 season ticket information, visit FeverBasketball.com or call (317) 917-2528. FeverBasketball.com.
